Confirmation Ministry, at Immanuel Lutheran Church, is a two-year program for young people currently in the 7th and 8th grades. This program is conducted by Pastor Matthew Schenning on the second Saturday of each month from October through May.
Confirmation for 8th-grade students, having completed the two-year program, is held each year on Pentecost Sunday.
A survey of the Bible is conducted the first year to familiarize the student with the language of faith as found in the Old and New Testaments. The following year, Martin Luther’s Small Catechism examines the fundamentals of the faith. Students memorize the Lord’s Prayer, the Ten Commandments, and the Apostle’s Creed. They study their meanings and examine the Sacraments of Baptism and Holy Communion. During the year, we dedicate one session for a field trip. We have visited Susquehanna University for Lutheran Youth Day, and Gettysburg Seminary in past years.
Confirmands are expected to attend weekly worship, participate in Jr./Sr. High Sunday School classes, serve as an acolyte, attend Lenten Mid-Week Bible Studies, and Holy Week Services. All of these elements help the student to grow in discipleship. Please contact the Church office with any further questions.
